Have you ever wondered why people often fall victim to financial scams, even when the warning signs seem clear? The answer might lie in cognitive bias.

I had the opportunity to present a talk titled “Blinded by Bias: Understanding How Cognitive Distortions Fuel Crypto Scams” at the Google T&S UX Monthly Studio.

In this talk, I explored how financial scams exploit cognitive biases to deceive potential victims, specifically focusing on cryptocurrency scams. I looked into the psychological mechanisms that scammers leverage to manipulate individuals. By understanding these cognitive distortions, we can develop more effective strategies to protect people from falling prey to crypto scams and enhance the safety of online interactions.

Through this research, I aim to shed light on the importance of recognizing and mitigating cognitive biases to foster safer online environments. This talk highlighted the need for continuous education and awareness to combat the ever-evolving tactics of scammers.
